They are native to Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Canada, The Contiguous United States, and Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii. They have drupes. Flowers are visited by Prionyx kirbii, Catasticta nimbice nimbice, Buff-tailed bumblebee, and Paragus haemorrhous. Individuals can grow to 0.25 m.
