It is native to the United States, where it occurs in Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. It is present in Georgia as an introduced species. It is known commonly as the Cajun dwarf crayfish.
