Bolidophyceae

provided by wikipedia EN

Bolidophyceae is a class of photosynthetic heterokont picophytoplankton.[1][2] They are distinguished by the angle of flagellar insertion and swimming patterns as well as recent molecular analyses.[3] They are sister taxa to the diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) but lack characteristic theca or silica structures. [4] They have been proposed as an intermediate group between the diatoms and all other heterokonts.[3][5]
