Description of Pocheina
provided by BioPedia
Pocheina rosea (type species) is often isolated from bark wetted and placed in a moist chamber; stalked sorocarps are pink, consisting of several rows of encysted cells capable of germinating and a globular sorus of spores. The stalk is about 100 µm tall, as is the sorus; uninucleate spores or stalk cells germinate to liberate limax-type amoebae; if a division occurs before germination, two biflagellate protoplasts or a binucleate protoplast may emerge, develop flagella, and undergo cytokinesis to produce two biflagellate amoebo-flagellate cells.
