Biology

Occurs from midwater to bottom depth in large and medium sized rivers. Does not persist in impoundments. Occurs regularly in fisheries of the middle and lower Mekong. Used to make prahoc (Ref. 12693).

The giant sharkminnow (Osteochilus schlegelii) a species of cyprinid fish found in southeast Asia.^[2]

The name honors Hermann Schlegel (10 June 1804 – 17 January 1884) who was a German ornithologist, herpetologist and ichthyologist.
