One of the more unusual bivalves, easily overlooked because of it's small size. Valves are both different, edge of one slightly overlaps other on periphery edge. Sorry 2nd image poor.

Common name is Deep Burrower or if it's on your menu, Gooey Duck. Lives in relatively shallow waters in Golden Bay and was commercially overfished some decades back by scuba divers. Thankfully they are gradually recovering. Considered a great delicacy, the digging muscle has a rather erotic appearance similar sized and shaped to a human male appendage.
