The exact locality is unknown, but since the paper of Lévi treats sponges from NW Africa it is likely that it occurred in Senegal or Mauritania. Van Soest (1993: table 5) lists the species for the Cape Verde Islands based on specimens in the Naturalis (ZMA) collection.
