They are native to GoiáS, Caatinga, Amazônia, Bahia, SãO Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Roraima, RondôNia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Amapá, ParaíBa, Maranhao, Alagoas, Ceará, Rio Grande Do Norte, Pará, The Contiguous United States, Rio Grande Do Sul, Paraná, Sergipe, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Espirito Santo, Santa Catarina, Pernambuco, Mato Grosso, and Tocantins. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by yellowjackets, hornets, and paper wasps, Mesembrius senegalensis, Paragus borbonicus, and Eristalinus tabanoides. Individuals can grow to 0.89 m.
