It is native to Pará, Sergipe, Mata Atlântica, Rondônia, Bahia, Distrito Federal, Rio de Janeiro, Piauí, Pampa, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Espirito Santo, Maranhao, Caatinga, Amapá, Ceará, Cerrado, Mato Grosso, Paraíba, Pantanal, São Paulo, Tocantins, Acre (Brazil), Roraima, Goiás, Pernambuco, Amazônia, Minas Gerais, Alagoas, and Amazônia. It is a photoautotroph.
