Hamelia axillaris (Balsamillo) is a species of shrub in the family Rubiaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Puerto Rico, Acre (Brazil), Roraima, U.S. Virgin Islands, AmazôNia, and RondôNia. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 4.7 m.
