Description:

Version of manually-generated dot map displayed above, showing U.S. and Canadian records, was harvested from SINA on Aug-05-2018.

Dots show county records; shaded area shows likely general distribution.

See also this computer-generated U.S. distribution map,
produced in 2004 from records in a database available on the Singing Insects of North America site.

David Weissman is currently working on a revision of the Gryllus species that occur in the western and central United States. He has concluded that Gryllus pennsylvanicus does not occur in southern California but in the West is restricted to the northern states (personal communication).

The computer-generated map shows four records near the Gulf coast based on song. These may be G. firmus but further study is needed.
