Everything that is tan, glabrous, with granular to coralloid isidia to phyllidia along the margins and scattered in spots laminally, with light brown tomentum below, and with white medulla and pseudocyphellae in Chile seems to key out to this species. The scattered laminal schizidia are associated with pseudocyphellae on the upper surface, but these are not always apparent in photos. In this particular specimen, the pseudocyphellae on the upper surface are clearly visible in several places, however they are mostly not associated with schizidia. (Without pseudocyphellae on the upper surface it keys to P. dissimilis which has only been recorded on Juan Fernandez islands; two species whose pseudocyphellae are not associated with schizidia both have velvety-black undersurface.)
