Description: Native cool-season perennial sedge with short rhizomes, densely tufted shoots and erect, terete to 3-sided stems 3–10 (-20) cm tall. Leaves exceed the stems and are to 35 cm long. Flowerheads are erect, narrow and about 4 cm long; there are 2–5 solitary spikes at nodes. Spikes are sessile, erect at maturity and 1.2–1.8 cm long; the uppermost spike is male and the lower spikes are female. Flowering is from spring to summer.
