CN: [Malay and regional vernacular names - Cemamar jantan, Cherek, Cerek-cerek, Cerek putih, Kayu saga, Kematu, Tetimah jantan, Cemumar, Chememar, Mentanen], Lime berry, Micromelum, Tulibas tilos, Talafalu. Distribution - Sri Lanka, India (Andaman and Nicobar), Indo-China (Myanmar), Malesia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines), Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia); Micronesia, Southwestern Pacific (Fiji, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu). Evergreen tree up to 10 m tall. Leaves compound, imparipinnate, alternate and spiral, leaflets 3-8 pairs, alternate, ovate to lanceolate, apex acute, base asymmetrical, glabrous or with fine hairs, minute translucent dots present, margin entire. Fruit berry-like, up to 1 cm in diameter, fleshy. Shoots consume as Malay salad and one of the ingredients for the preparation of "Nasi Kerabu Kedah" (Kedah Herbal Rice). Strong minty, bitter and astringent shoots also eaten raw as Malay salad, dipped in chili shrimp paste.
