I am quite surprised that with 130 photos none of them show the infamous "threat display". The threat display can often times be helpful with identification of a particular subspecies as it will show a particular color pattern that is present on the wings. This is especially true for the female mantid.

I have one of these, I caught it in Central California in 2011 which shows that since the mapping of 2003 where they were not west of Arizona, there has been some migration of this species.
