    Pavonia odorata and pavonia zeylanica are closely related species. P. odorata leaves are angular in shape slightly larger in size. P. zeylanica leaves are slightly smaller in size, deeply lobed. The roots are used in siddha medicine.

    Salacia chinensis is a woody climber or shrub grows up to 2-5 meters. it is often found in the coastal areas, The roots of this is with golden yellow cork layer. Inner root is reddish brown with several circles of bark and wood. The stem cross section also shows several rings due to the development of several layers of bark tissue alternating with wood tissue. The leave are elliptic, acute, opposite to sub opposite. flowers axillary usually solitary, small yellowish green. berries are pale green become reddish when mature, contains single seed. The root and stem wood are well known for its antidiabetic activity.
