@Yan Wong: Harvesting text for higher taxa from Wikipedia is problematic & error prone. We used to have a way for a curator to request a specific page harvest but 1) it isn't working anymore and 2) I'm not sure it worked for higher taxa.

Incidentally, why don't we have any textual information (even from Wikipedia) about this major fungal group: http://eol.org/pages/6355/overview ? Do we not harvest this sort of thing?

Okay, things should have magically re-appeared by now. Sorry for the trouble, thanks for pointing it out!

We do seem to be having an issue with image uploads at the moment; this affects both icon-creation (i.e.: for collections) as well as image cropping. I'll look into it now. Thanks!

Anyone know if there's an issue with images at the moment? I've uploaded and/or cropped some and they seem to be there as files but not as images. For example, there are three images for Dimetrodon limbatus but they aren't showing up. (http://eol.org/pages/4530666/overview) This has only happened to images from the last day or two.

@Scott Ellsworth: If you only know the genus, you should use the genus tag, i.e.: taxonomy:genus=Belotelson Let me know if this is not clear. For more information on tagging, please see: Frequently Asked Questions about EOL machine tags.

Oh my gosh. Does it not work if you only tag the genus name? Is there a way to tag if you don't know the species name? (Use "sp." or something?)

Katja Schulz commented on "EOL Curators":

Scott, in this particular images you are using a binomial tag, which is reserved for two-part names (i.e., Genus species) but only provide the genus name. In cases like this, you should use the genus tag, i.e.: taxonomy:genus=Belotelson For more information on tagging, please see: Frequently Asked Questions about EOL machine tags.

Thanks Cyndy. Here's a link to an example that doesn't work: https://www.flickr.com/photos/113949770@N03/15613634478/. I'm hoping I can learn what's different about that one as opposed to one that did get imported correctly like https://www.flickr.com/photos/113949770@N03/14027441436/.

@Scott Ellsworth: Michael is right, there's a computer program that should bring everything into EOL that meets the requirements. If you can give some examples of photos that you think should be harvested that aren't, the EOL team can follow up.

@Scott Ellsworth: If the photos are properly tagged, then they are imported automatically, provided they also carry a suitable Creative Commons license. Best to check if they are licensed, and also check for any typos in the machine tags.

I should clarify. I know how to properly tag photos in Flickr, and some of my images have ended up on the proper EOL taxon page, but some haven't. I was assuming curators were the ones who took images from Flickr and approved them for EOL pages.

I'm a brand new assistant curator. Can someone please explain how to import images from Flickr to a taxon page? Thanks.

@Deniz Martinez: I think it would be better to downrate them with one star which will put them towards the end of media collections. These photos may still be useful for some purposes, so we probably would not want to remove them from public view entirely.

I have a question...if there are enough good quality photos of a species alive and well, is it ok to hide photos of them as roadkill? :/ Thanks, Deniz

@Yan Wong: That's really strange. I have added the common name "herrings" to the Clupea page. That should put this page at the top of the search results list. I have also added a redirect that sends people directly to this page, so they don't have to deal with all the species described by various Herrings.

@Andrew Brower: Hi Andy, have you tried the curator worklist? Look for the Worklist tab on any EOL taxon page. There are a bunch of content filters available at the top of the page to customize the things you see in the list.
