Bart C. commented on "Andrena clarkella (Kirby, 1802)":
'A Bee' doesn't sound like a proper common name.
-
Bart C. commented on "Ichthyaetus relictus (Lonnberg, 1931)":
I think the alternative name 'Mongolian gull' is mostly used for Larus mongolicus.

Bart C. commented on "Larus mongolicus":
In one case a bird of this species was found to be 24 years old. (see http://birdingbeijing.com/2013/04/04/a-right-old-bird/)

Bart C. commented on "EOL Discussion Group":
Would it be possible to construct and submit a list of species you want to add to a collection via a spreadsheet? I am a member of group of naturalists that want to establish fauna lists for our working area. We want to publish this on our website. A link to an EOL collection would be perfect to update annotations instantly, without bothering our webmaster too much and have additional information about those species one click away for our visitors. Adding hundreds of species one by one to a collection and adding annotations and references via the EOL one by one is a bit too much.

Bart C. commented on "Identification Resources Group":
I think the ‘Online Identification Guides’ collection is a nice idea, but I don't see much movement anymore. Are there no more resources? I doubt it. Maybe a list of links is a bit old fashion. I think EOL could do better. I don’t see much of these urls added to the Identification Resources subchapters. What do you think about the idea of an online, global, croudsourced, searchable database of identification resources? It can feed EOL authomatically with data for the ‘Identification subchapter’ of the relevant taxonomic range (and maybe visa versa). It should be searchable on at least geographic range (countries, bioregions, continents), taxonomic level and language(s). Both online resources (interactive keys, checklists, photo library, forums, e-guides, etc) as well as references to physical books and articles (online available or not). URL’s can be added and reviewed by users. I am not a web designer, so who wants to steal my idea?

Bart C. commented on "Pseudozizeeria maha - Pale Grass Blue":
This is not Pseudozizeeria maha because of the 'inward displaced spot' on the hindwing (see http://old.hkbutterfly.org/info-z_karsandra-z_maha-z_otis.html). This is possily Zizina otis (see http://216.92.149.63/zootaxa/2008/f/zt01746p038.pdf)

Bart C. commented on "EOL Curators":
@Jamie McMillan: Are your data being imported in mappingoflife.org now? I would like to know how it works to map names and locations to such a database. It must consume a lot of time. Other suggestions for you would be to contact one or more owners of websites like project noah, ispot, inaturalist, observado.org, etc. if they can import it into one of their databases. But I doubt they want to map mismatches for you.

This image also appears on the page for Arborophila gingica. Are A. atrogularis and A.gingica synonyms?

Bart C. commented on "Papilio xuthus Linnaeus 1767":
@Katja Schulz: It seems your right. Just wanted to double check. My quick search only resulted in references to P. demodocus.
-
Bart C. commented on "Papilio xuthus Linnaeus 1767":
One of the common names in the list given on this page is 'Citrus Swallowtail'. But there is another species, Papilio demodocus, that also has this common name and it seems much more used for that species than for P. xuthus. Is it used for both or did the data provider mixed this up?
-
Bart C. commented on "Citrus swallowtail":
orphaned page with only common name. wrongly tagged on flickr?
