Dominik Hofer commented on "Cissia hesione Sulzer, 1776. 1776":
Although the ID is trusted I have some doubts. In my eyes this one is actually Pareuptychia metaleuca, One-banded Satyr. Cissia hesione is another name for Pareuptychia ocirrhoe, the Two-banded Satyr. Isidro Chacon confirmed once that in his book the pictures of these two species are mixed up, so this might be the reason for this ID. I add the corresponding reference from BOA. Please, check yourself. http://butterfliesofamerica.com/t/Pareuptychia_a.htm

@Dominik Hofer: This looks like a real can of worms. The INBio account for Mechanitis lysimnia doryssus references deVries' (1987) "The butterflies of Costa Rica and their natural history." Markku Savela's site lists DeVries' Mechanitis lysimnia doryssus as a synonym of Mechanitis menapis doryssus Bates, 1864. But Niklas Wahlberg's Nymphalidae classification, which credits Savela's site as the source for the species lists, does feature Mechanitis lysimnia doryssus. It's not clear whether this is an intentional disagreement with Savela's opinion.

Is there really a Mechanitis lysimnia doryssus? Might this one be Mechanitis lysimnia utemaia and Doryssus might be Mechanitis menapis doryssus, which, however, would look different.

@Alison Barrows-Young: Hello Alison, it's been kind of quiet around here. I guess everybody's out there taking pictures. A while back people started reporting on the kind of camera they are using. I have several cameras, but my favorite one by far is the Canon SX40 HS. It's a point of shoot camera with great features for capturing wildlife in action. With the long zoom, you can capture birds and mammals from quite a distance, and for tiny little things, you can add an external flash and a Raynox close-up lens.

Hello fellow photographers. I am just beginning my discovery of this fascinating forum. Looking forward to learning and taking part in the community.

@Alan Couch: This is really cool. It just needs a macro mode, a bug in the view finder, and the ability to place a flash in different positions.
