David den Ouden commented on an older version of Fossa fossana (Striped Civit):
This photo is a fanaloka (Fossa fossana), I have similar photos from Ranomafana in Madagascar. The curator may confirm a positive ID. I can even pinpoint the geographical location up to a few meters :-)

Great image by the way, I only have a torch lighted photo at night.

David den Ouden commented on an older version of Colobus guereza kikuyuensis:
This is a Colobus guereza, did not verify if it's the correct subspecies.

David den Ouden commented on "File:Nasalis larvatus range map.png":
Image consists of geographical range, not the animal.
-
David den Ouden commented on "File:Microcebus myoxinus.jpg":
Flash photography is harmful for nocturnal lemurs. For as far as I know it's also not allowed in any park in Madagascar. Pity to see a flash photo appearing on EOL.

David den Ouden commented on "File:Aye aye.jpg":
Poor image quality of a stuffed Aye-Aye. It's a duplicate of the same stuffed animal in better quality.
-
David den Ouden commented on "File:ALBIFRONS-MALE2.JPG":
The poor image quality is nog suited for representation of lemurs on the Lemuridae family level. Specific species info is missing. It's a male White-fronted brown lemur (Eulemur albifrons).
-
David den Ouden commented on "File:ALBIFRONS-MALE2.JPG":
Eulemur albifrons. Common name: White-fronted brown lemur. Male. Poor photo quality does not do justice to the true colours of the lemur. The black snout and white cheeks and head are enough to identify this lemur positively as white-fronted brown lemur.
-
David den Ouden commented on "File:Blue eyed black lemur by Bruce McAdam.jpg":
Eulemur macaco flavifrons, common name: Blue-eyed black lemur. Male.

David den Ouden commented on an older version of File:Egyptian statue of a baboon at the Louvre museum.jpg:
This is a statue of a baboon, not a living baboon.

David den Ouden commented on "File:Egypte louvre 030.jpg":
This is a statue of a baboon, not a living baboon.
-
David den Ouden commented on "File:Louvre-egyptologie-babouin-thot.jpg":
This is just a statue of - partially - a baboon. Not a real baboon.
-
David den Ouden commented on an older version of Savanna baboon (Papio cynocephalus):
This is not a Papio cynocephalus (Yellow Baboon), but a Papio anubis (Olive Baboon). Yellow Baboons are more yellow and not as compactly built. Picture taken in Masai Mara in Kenya where there are only Olive Baboons, no Yellow Baboons.
-
David den Ouden commented on an older version of Babuíno-niani // Olive Baboon (Papio anubis), male:
This is not a Papio anubis (Olive Baboon), but a Papio hamadryas (Sacred Baboon).
