@Jakob Fahr: Sorry, not yet. Harvesting is currently delayed all around as our servers are being relocated. Hopefully, things will be back to normal soon.

@Yan Wong: Good question, Yan. It's rare for partners to elect not to post a source url, but it's not required, so we do have a few media like that. In the attribution section, only license and owner (or Public Domain designation) are required.

How come this doesn't have a source http://eol.org/data_objects/19888582 . I thought all images had?

@Katja Schulz: Any solution for getting the iNat picture harvest going again?

Hi everyone! I've added a bunch of synonymies and proposed changes, could someone carry these out where deemed appropriate? http://eol.org/users/77958/newsfeed/comments

@Sarah Miller: Yikes, thanks Sarah. It looks like the last harvest got stuck. I'll see if we can get this going again.

I was just browsing and noticed that the i naturalist image collection (http://eol.org/collections/36789) has not been updated in 4 months. Any suggestions on how to refresh that collection.

@Katja Schulz: Thanks Katya. Dromius univestis isn't IRMNG as far as I can tell, only GBIF, but perhaps what you said also applies to GBIF. Also the last example I gave is a case where another source (biolib.cz) has the data too, but the IRMNG name still isn't imported, but maybe the biolib import happened after the IRMNG one? Incidentally, I'm hitting these when trying to map OpenTree IDs to EoL page IDs (http://yanwong.me/?page_id=1268)

Katja Schulz commented on "EOL Curators":

@Yan Wong: Sorry for the late reply. Had to do some research to figure this out. I think these are probably IRMNG names that don't have a taxonomicStatus, so we don't know if they are valid/accepted names or synonyms. There are over 300,000 of these names in IRMNG, and we are importing them only if we already have the name from another source.

I'm not sure if this is a curator question, but I'm coming across a large number of species that are listed on gbif/irmng that seem not to have pages on EoL. I'm unclear how EoL gets data from these sources, but I would have thought that they should be present somewhere here, even if as synonyms. How come we are missing these? Some random examples are Odontacarus mahaplagensis (http://www.gbif.org/species/6915268), Dromius univestis (http://www.gbif.org/species/5735634), Choniangium algericum (http://www.marine.csiro.au/mirrorsearch/ir_search.list_species?sp_id=11555599), and so on. There are others which are present on these databases but which have only made it to EoL via a different route, e.g. Brachistosternus andinus (http://www.marine.csiro.au/mirrorsearch/ir_search.list_species?sp_id=11622346 but only on EoL via BioLib.cz).

@Yan Wong: Yeah, we've mentioned that to the partner before, but just to keep our own house clean, I did a search for those and hid those I found, about 30. Please go ahead and hide or untrust any others you see. Leave a comment about the license. Cases like this are thankfully rare.

Worryingly, this image: http://eol.org/data_objects/19886579, although very clearly marked as copyrighted etc. has found its way via EOL China Regional Center into EOL marked as CC-BY-NC-SA. It took me only a few seconds to verify that it is not distributable in this way (http://www.arkive.org/greater-mouse-eared-bat/myotis-myotis/image-A14235.html). Can someone have a word with whoever is putting these up?

    @Katja Schulz:

Yep, keeping (but unpublished) seems reasonable to me too. I wonder if we should remove them from the collection to ID, though, as we can't curate unpublished images anyway!

On the same topic, I suspect that there may be wikimedia photos which become unpublished because they are shuffled down into a more specific category (e.g. xxx in Kruger National Park) which has no explicit taxonomic information. We can get these back by adding the correct taxonomic info on commons (e.g. see what MPF and I have done at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Milvus_milvus_in_flight), but there isn't currently a way to keep track of when this might be needed. Just something to ponder over.

Katja Schulz commented on "EOL Curators":

@Jennifer Hammock: Yes, we should really keep these pics published on EOL even if the license changes at the source. It's perfectly legal, and supported by most contributors I have talked to. But we've never gotten around to changing the code for this. Jen, I think you had some concerns about keeping images that disappear from partner resources.

@Yan Wong: Yeah, Katja is familiar with the relicensed flickr photos issue, and I believe it's complicated. A tweak to the flickr harvest might help, if I remember the preferences of the flickr community correctly...

@Yan Wong: Agree the one Cyndy set as exemplar is the best I could find too - I was just about to re-set it as exemplar, but it vanished from the listings after I star-rated it!
Maybe because it is currently marked as "The association to Melanerpes erythrocephalus cannot be curated because it is being previewed after a harvest"??
