I've been able to set the preferred classification (ITIS) for the family I curate, but I see now that that preference is pinned only to the 'Histeridae' page. Is there any option to enforce that classification for all subordinate taxa? I see the dangers here, if you happen to curate 'Animalia' or something like that, but for lower level taxa it would be nice to be able to do this once, not for every included taxon. Thanks, Mike

Have you guys looked at the Research Wishes collection http://eol.org/collections/34377 and voted on which ones look most promising for future work? We could use your expert opinions.

@Cyndy Parr: There have certainly been videos from Commons here in the past, I remember curating some, such as this one: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Budgerigar_carpet95.ogg - actually, its eol page is still here but not visible on the media page: http://eol.org/data_objects/5881928

@Michael Wunderli: Here is our page explaining what our harvester is SUPPOSED to be be looking for http://eol.org/info/curate_wiki. I checked our Wikimedia Commons collection at http://eol.org/collections/210 and there are no videos at all, so we must not be harvesting any.

@Michael Wunderli: Both are on their relevant species pages at wiki Commons, so they should be here.

Found the second one (Lacerta viridis): http://eol.org/data_objects/13514894

The video isn't here; not sure why, but there have long been odd quirks with Commons harvesting, with some images not appearing. Some cases may be due to less frequently used CC license formatting such as CC-0, but that shouldn't apply here.

@Michael Wunderli: Hi, Michael! Go into the collection, and open the managers tab. Do you see your community listed there with a "remove" link? This should work as long as you personally are also a manager of the collection.

@Jiri Hulcr: Hey Jiri, the cropped thumbnail thing is something that the SP folks seem to be holding firm on. There's no way under the SP2 platform to modify the thumbnail styles/settings. It's easily done in Drupal, but for some reason the SP team doesn't want to do it. If anyone else wants to lobby for uncropped thumbnails, you can add a comment on this issue: http://dev.scratchpads.eu/node/1247

Greetings, EOL curators! Some of you know that we have been soliciting suggestions for big data questions that could be answered (or begin to be answered) using EOL content. We’re calling these Research Wishes and they’re listed in the “I Wish” collection. We’ve got biogeography; we’ve got the evolution of body part regeneration; we’ve got estimation of collected but undescribed species in current museum collections. We need your opinion!

Please take some time to visit the collection, read some of the questions and tell us how you would prioritize them, using the usual 5 star rating tool. You’re also welcome to comment on the questions, and join the Research Ideas community to follow discussion of all the Research Wishes. New wishes and ratings may be added until 11:59pm GMT on September 28th, when we will record the average ratings and number of raters for each wish. These will help us determine a Research Wishes shortlist. This list will underlie this year’s Rubenstein Program. In October we will solicit proposals from teams of biologists, information scientists, crowdsourcing experts and/or computer scientists to provide tools and strategies to deliver the data needed to grant the shortlisted Research Wishes. Thanks for your help!

HELP PLEASE... We lost access to our site http://xyleborini.myspecies.info/ ! Reloading is not helping, it's just giving me and the users error messages. Would someone know who to contact for help? Unfortunately I can't open an "Issue" for the developers, because I don't have any website to log into... Thanks in advance!

Images cut off: Hi ScratchPaddies. Most of my recently uploaded images in ScratchPads are displayed so that their longer ends are cut off, which renders them pretty much useless. If you go to my scratchpad site (xyleborini.myspace.info) you will immediately see what I mean. It seems to be set up so that images are resized to fit the shorter side of the image box, rather than the longer side. There must be some trivial switch, but if not, and if it's in the code, is there any hope that it will be addressed? Eli already mentioned to me that it is possible on other platforms, but I am wondering if anybody has had, and solved, this issue in ScratchPads? Thank you! Jiri

@abdul qayyum: I see that you have been adding Urdu common names, so it seems you discovered Urdu on the common names language pull-down list. You should also find it on the "add an article" language list from the Detail tab. Thanks for contributing!
