General Description

 On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth ranges from 4.7-5.6 cm diam., with a mean ñ SD = 5.1 ñ 0.28, aerial mycelium floccose, with white aerial mycelium and colourless pigmentation, or violet white aerial mycelium with grayish violet pigmentation, or sometimes pale violet mycelium with deep violet pigmentation. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. After 10 days growth ranges from 7.55-9.15 cm length, with a mean ñ SD = 8.57 ñ 0.39, aerial mycelium abundant, white and pigmentation colourless, or aerial mycelium pastel violet and pigmentation violet, or mycelium lilac and pigmentation deep violet; mycelium producing "chlamydospores" not observed. Conidia. Of two types; macroconidia usually rare, rather slender, slightly falcate, thin-walled, 30-55 × 3-4.5 μm, 3- to 5-septate, each with a curved apical cell and foot-shaped basal cell; microconidia abundant, oval to obclavate, 8-12 × 2.5-3 μm, aseptate, produced only in false heads from mono- and polyphialidic conidiogenous cells. Notes. This species grows on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) with white or pale red aerial mycelium and orange pigmentation; growth on mannitol medium results in white or reddish aerial mycelium and reddish brown or grayish red or red pigmentation; growth on Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) exceeds 5 cm diam., with white or pinkish or grayish rose aerial mycelium and grayish ruby or pinkish or reddish grey pigmentation.
