Range Description

This species has been described from Mérida (Páramo de Mucuchíes), Venezuela (Martínez and Martínez 1990). Although the species is only known from a single locality, the potential extent of occurrence, based on distribution of potential habitat, is estimated as no more than 500 km2. Within this, the area of occupancy is likely to be even less. As a result, the species falls under Endangered based on a restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy. Because at the altitude at which the species occurs climate change is the most significant threat (T. Larsen pers. comm. 2013), the species occurs in a single location (i.e. the entire extent of occurrence is affected by climatic warming).
