Juveniles live in a specific inshore habitat until they reach 18 cm. Adults are found on the bottom over a wide depth range (Ref. 3636). Feed largely on benthic cichlids but also take sardines (Ref. 4967). Threatened due to over harvesting (Ref. 58490).
