The species has been recorded from South Africa and Angola to Ethiopia and Madagascar, and west to Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Never common but likely to occur in all countries in between the mentioned countries.

In central Africa, it is present in Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In eastern Africa, it is widespread but uncommon in Kenya, Tanzania (Rufiji Delta in Tanzania, according to Clausnitzer pers. comm.), Uganda, Malawi and Burundi (distribution assumed).

In northeastern Africa, it is known from Ethiopia and Kenya. Its occurrence in Sudan is assumed.

In southern Africa, this species is known from Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Its inferred occurrence in Angola is currently unproven (no localities are known).

Its presence in western Africa (listed for Sierra Leona and Nigeria) is uncertain.
