Advenella

Advenella is a genus in the phylum Proteobacteria (Bacteria).[1] The two members of the genus Tetrathiobacter were transferred to this genus, namely Tetrathiobacter kashmirensis and Tetrathiobacter mimigardefordensis.

Etymology[edit]

The name Advenella derives from:
Latin feminine gender noun advena, a stranger, a foreigner; Latin feminine gender dim. suff. -ella; New Latin feminine gender noun Advenella, the little stranger, referring to the fact that the source of these unusual organisms is unknown.[2]

Species[edit]

The genus contains 4 species (including basonyms and synonyms), namely[2]

  • A. faeciporci (Matsuoka et al. 2012) ; Latin feminine gender noun: faex faecis means faeces and porci(=swine) --> from pig faeces where it was first isolated.[3]
  • A. incenata ( Coenye et al. 2005, (Type species of the genus).; Latin feminine gender adjective incenata, that has not dined or eaten, dinnerless, fasting, referring to the fact that this organism shows little biochemical activity.)[4]
  • A. kashmirensis ( (Ghosh et al. 2005) Gibello et al. 2009, ; New Latin feminine gender adjective kashmirensis, pertaining to Kashmir, after the name of the province from where the original strains of the species were isolated.)[4]
  • A. mimigardefordensis ( (Wübbeler et al. 2006) Gibello et al. 2009, ; New Latin feminine gender adjective mimigardefordensis, pertaining to Mimegardefordum, a medieval name of Münster, where the type strain was isolated.)[4]
