Range Description

This nominal species is known from central and southern Brazil (from Minas Gerais south), Uruguay, Paraguay and northern and central Argentina (Buenos Aires, Catamarca, Córdoba, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Formosa, Jujuy, La Pampa, La Rioja, Misiones, Río Negro, Salta, Santiago del Estero, Santa Fe, San Luis, Tucumán).

The tetraploid Odontophrynus americanus presents three disjunct population groups, isolated from one another by diploid populations. One of these tetraploid groups is distributed in central and eastern Argentina, southern Brazil, southern Paraguay, and Uruguay, with the other two population groups of the tetraploid form inhabiting southeastern Brazil, and northwestern Argentina respectively (Rosset et al., 2006).

It occurs from 0-2,000m asl.
