Description of Alteromonas

Gram negative heterotrophic marine eubacteria, straight or curved rods, with single polar flagellum. Similar to marine Marinomonas, Pseudomonas, Alcaligenes and Oceanospirillum phenotypically. With about 15 species all isolated from marine locations. Type species A. mcleodii Baumann et al. 1972 BAUMANN L., BAUMANN P., MANDEL M. and ALLEN R.D.: Taxonomy of aerobic marine eubacteria.
