Methanosphaera stadtmanae

Methanosphaera stadtmanae is a methanogenic archaea found in digestive tract of several humans and some animals. This Gram-positive cocci arranges in pairs or tetrads. It has the most restrictive metabolism of all known archaea and uses methanol and hydrogen to produce its energy. M. stadtmanae’s genome has also the lowest GC nucleic acid content of all sequenced archaea. The inflammatory potential of this archaea has recently been shown in vitro on human cells and in animal models.
