The Utila spiny-tailed iguana feeds on plant matter and small invertebrates that inhabit the mangroves (2). While mangrove habitat is perfect habitat for feeding and resting, it is not ideal for nesting, and so when the time comes, female Utila spiny-tailed iguanas migrate to the island's beaches, where they lay their eggs in the sand and leave them to be incubated by the sun (4).
