Distribution: Below 200 m elevation, in the north from Ili River Valley of Xinjiang Uygur and the foothills and valley of the Tien, Shan mountains to the E coast of the Caspian Sea south through the deserts of the former USSR, C and W Iran, W Afghanistan and N Baluchistan, (Pakistan), isolated populations on the Arabian  Peninsula in Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman, W China, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan  scincus: Ili River Valley of Xinjiang Uygur  keyserlingii: Iran, Afghanistan, NE United Arab Emirates.  rustamowi: restricted to the Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan, the deserts of the former USSR]
