Description of Ankylochrysis

Single-celled, free-swimming flagellates with a multilayered external cell covering (theca); cells reniform, dorsally often convex, ventrally with a furrow subtending the flagellar insertion and extending obliquely anteriorly; 2 unequal flagella, inserted side by side on ventral surface; single chloroplast, with a pyrenoid transected by a pair of thylakoids; eyespot lacking; marine.
