Description of Chrysocystis

Solid gelatinous colonies with cells located around the periphery; colonies macroscopic, appearing pale yellow in colour; zoospores formed by two successive divisions of vegetative cells; zoospores pyriform or ovoid with one to several chloroplasts and laterally inserted flagella; longer flagellum directed anteriorly, shorter flagellum directed posteriorly; eyespots absent; asexual reproduction by colony fragmentation and zoospore formation; sexual reproduction unknown; marine.
