Description of Cryptobia

Kinetoplastid flagellates, solitary, parasites, recurrent flagellum attached along the entire length of the body but does not form a prominent undulating membrane; eukinetoplastic or, more rarely, pankinetoplastic with kinetoplast DNA irregularly disposed in masses in the mitochondrion; ventral groove alongside recurrent flagellum; feed by pinocytosis through a cytostome located at the end of a long preoral ridge. cysts unknown; type species Cryptobia helicis Leidy 1846
