Description of Herpetomonas

Kinetoplastid flagellates, one host, promastigote stage dominant over opisthomastigotes in which the flagellum courses through a long pocket running the length of the flagellate's body, parasites of Diptera and possibly other groups of insects; type species is Herpetomonas muscarum (Leidy) Kent, from house flies and other muscids.
