Amytornis dorotheae has a limited range in the hilly parts of north-western Queensland and eastern Northern Territory, Australia. Recent systematic surveys have reported a substantial populations decline in the Northern Territory, with extirpation of historical populations due to wildfires at Limmen Bight, Borroloola and Boodjamulla, leaving two populations at Wollogorang and the Calvert Hills which are both very small and vulnerable to fire. The Mt Isa population appears to be persisting under existing fire regimes and has an estimated population of 3,000-10,000 pairs, though it is still at risk from large scale future fires2.
