Description of Pelagomonas

Single-celled, free-swimming flagellates; with thin cell covering (theca); single flagellum arising from basal body inserted in the posterior of the cell, with flagellum extending anteriorly along a cellular groove and extending forward beyond the anterior of the cell; no second flagellum and no second basal body present; microtubular flagellar roots absent; transitional helix below the major transitional plate; marine.
