The crown is brown-black, neck and breast grey-white with a distinct black breast band. The bend of wing is patterned black and white. The back, wings and tail are brown with fine buff markings. Females have a narrower brown crown, less distinct or absent breast band and greyer neck and breast. Bustards are usually silent, but males roar or boom during courtship displays.
