Description of Chrysopyxis

Hibberdialean stramenopiles, cells rhizopodial, solitary, surrounded by an ovoid, spheroidal or flask-shaped lorica with a broadly open apical aperture; basis of lorica extended into two thin projections, one on either side, their tips being connected to form a ring, by which lorica is attached to substratum (e.g., an algal filament); lorica and ring containing fine cellulosic fibrils, older loricas often yellow or brownish owing to impregnation with iron and manganese; cell more or less spherical, attached to the lorica by a thin protoplasmic strand, at cell apex usually with a fine, sometimes branched rhizopodium extending through aperture in lorica.
