Description of Achromatium

A colourless sulphur (=colorless sulfur) bacterium, spherical to rod-shaped, can be very large, in marine or freshwater sediments, slowly motile, tends to occur at the interface between reduced layers and layers of sediment with free oxygen. Forms deposits of sulphur within the cells, may or may not have calareous deposits in cells.
