Read full entry
Large reticulate amoeboid organism with uni-flagellated dispersal stage. The vegetative stage is comprised of nucleated regions (amoebae) up to 20 µm in diameter, interconnected by thinner pseudopodia. With green (chlorophylls a and b) photosynthetic compartments - endo-symbiotic eukaryotic algae. Marine, originally described from the Canary islands. Molecular studies suggest affinities with testate amoebae. One described species.
