Description of Chattonella

This genus is associated with red tides; individuals vary considerably in size and form, ranging from almost circular in outline to ellipsoidal and sometimes with a tail; with 2 flagella; many chloroplasts which give the cell a yellow-brown colour; some species have pyrenoids, some form cysts, some have mucocyssts; marine habitats.
