Global Range: (5000-200,000 square km (about 2000-80,000 square miles)) Endemic to eastern New England: from the Connecticut River Valley to near the coast, originally central and southern Maine, southern New Hampshire, and more widely in Massachusetts, but spread into northeastern Connecticut about 1978 and was later found at least once in Vermont. It probably also occurs in the northwestern corner of Rhode Island. Reports from farther west and in Canada refer to taxa in the H. nevadensis complex, =Great Lakes Buckmoths of Tuskes et al. (1996).
