Blastophaga psenes is a wasp species in the genus Blastophaga. The common fig Ficus carica is pollinated by B. psenes. Some cultivars of domestic fig trees are parthenocarpic and don't need to be pollinated by B. psenes to produce fruits. These fruits are seedless and the sterile parthenocarpic cultivars can therefore only be propagated vegetatively.
