gl7176 commented on an older version of "Anolis cristatellus":
I'm not positive, but I think that this picture may be of an Anolis gundlachi, not cristatellus as listed. I can't make out the color of the eye, which would make for an easy diagnosis (tan/brown for cristatellus, blue for gundlachi), but the tiger-stripes along the side (seen faintly in this specimen) are typical of gundlachi, as is the tall crest at the tail, which flares down well before the end of the tail - the crest of a cristatellus, by contrast, typically extends for the length of the tail, tapering toward the tip. Furthermore, gundlachi are more abundant, as cristatellus become less abundant, in higher elevations, including most of El Yunque, where this photo was taken. With the amount of morphological variation seen in Anolis cristatellus, however, it is entirely possible that I'm mistaken.
