This species is known from southeastern China, the main island of Taiwan, Lanyu Island, and southern Japan, including the Ryukyu Archipelago and all other island groups between Taiwan and the southernmost tip of Kyushu (Ota 1989). Chou (1999) also reports that this species is present on Lutao Island, in Taiwan. This species is found up to 1,300 m above sea level (H. Ota pers. comm.).
