A medium-sized, rather slender lizard, maximum SVL recorded 68 mm; tail relatively long, average tail/SVL ratio = 1.6. Nostril pierced in a single scale, no postnasals; four supraoculars, 4 supralabials anterior to eye; ear rather small, round with 2-3 lobules, one of which more elongate than the others; tympanum exposed. Dorsals tricarinate, ventrals smooth, 32-34 scales around mid-body (based on 12 Egyptian specimens). Dorsum olive-brown with 5 light (fringed with black) longitudinal stripes, the most lateral of these white and extending to between the eye and supralabials. Head shields edged with black. Venter grayish white. Juveniles are more contrasting, males brighter than females.
