Type locality: Gwao’s, Dodoma, Ugogo, Tanganyika Territory.  elgonis: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania.
Type locality: Mount Elgon (elevation: 6500-8500 feet), Kenya. Syntypes: MCZ  lionotus: Uganda, Kenya.
Type locality: Southeast of Lake Rudolf, Gallaland (= Kenya)  ufipae: W Tanzania, Lake Tanganijka.
Type locality: Kipili, Ufipa, Tanganyika Territory. Holotype: MCZ
