Diversity description:Adelidae is a widely distributed family of nearly 300 species that occur on all continents except Antartica and are absent from New Zealand.Two subfamilies have been proposed (Küppers 1980): Adelinae (maxillary palpi 2-3-segmented; male valvae without pectinifers);including Adela,Cauchas, and Nemophora. Nematopogoninae (maxillary palpi usually 4-5-segmented; male valvae usually with pectinifers); including Ceromitia and Nematopogon.
